Caroline Bay Rock and Hop (by Sandra Christie)

21st March 2026

Wow, what a fantastic weekend I had at the Caroline Bay Rock and Hop. I had never been before and didn’t quite know what to expect, so had no pre-conceived ideas.

For me, the weekend starting off with a dance at the Celtic Hall on the Friday night, with music by The Coyotes. This was a great event, with a large number of Dunedin club members rocking the dance floor. It was great to see everybody up and dancing.

The day on Saturday was a fun event, with cars to “oo and ah” over, stalls to spend your money at (I may have helped raise the proft at some of the stalls), and music to dance to. One of the highlights for me was the fashion parade on the main stage and seeing two of our club members on the stage strutting their stuff. Toni and Kim looked fantastic, with Kim wearing a dress made by herself. You girls rocked it.

The Saturday night brought more dancing, with two halls hosting different bands. My group chose to go to the dance at the Caroline Bay hall, once again dancing to the music of The Coyotes. I do like their music! I must say dancing on a sprung floor took a bit of getting used to and you certainly realised if you were even just a teeny weeny bit off the beat. It was a bit like jumping on a trampoline with somebody who wasn’t jumping at the same time as you. Definitely some very tired legs at the end of the evening.

A very tired but very happy girl arrived back home on the Sunday, with the weekend finished off by a surprise visit from my son who snuck over from Melbourne to surprise me. What a great finish to a really fun weekend.
